Energy giant E.ON has cut its domestic gas prices by six per cent, becoming the third big supplier to do since the start of the year.

However, consumers are being warned that the savings being offered are not as generous as they may at first appear.

Moneysupermarket.com has pointed out that E.ON's price cut is worth just £42 a year to the average customer, or £3.50 a month.

Plus, the price cut only takes effect at the end of March – when the peak winter season for energy consumption is over, the price comparison site noted.

Energy prices are still at historic highs, and are one of the primary reasons for debt and financial problems experienced by households in recent years. ADNFCR-2613-ID-19658100-ADNFCR
