Debt Alert: Childcare costs rise sharply
10/02/2010
The cost of childcare increased dramatically in the last year, despite severely restrained income growth during that period.
That's according to the annual report from the Daycare Trust, which found that, in spite of a recession, nursery fees increased by 5.1 per cent.
That's twice the level of inflation throughout 2009, and means that those who have faced cuts in pay or working hours could need debt help soon.
As a result, the trust has called for politicians to include a greater investment in childcare as part of their election pledges.
