Energy Switching News: Cold snap causes debt woe
18/01/2010
Almost two thirds of people have thought more about their energy bills because of the recent cold snap.
That's the finding of new research from consumer group Which?. They found that more than a third of consumers were worried about paying for energy this month.
Indeed, many admitted to dipping into their own or even their children's savings to cover the cost of heating. Others, meanwhile, had been forced to cut spending on areas such as holidays or gym memberships.
Despite this, only 31 per cent said they had switched or enquired about switching energy providers to save money.
Kevin Still, director at EuroDebt, said: "It is vital that people prioritise payment of bills like utilities and council tax, even if they are facing debt problems'>debt problems.
"Using an energy comparison tool like www.energyswitching.co.uk is simple and free to use," he said. "Our experience is that it could save you in excess of £30 per month if you haven't switched."
