The middle classes are turning their backs on Britain's biggest banks as the recession continues to bite.

That's according to research from G2 United Kingdom, which found that middle England has become more comfortable dealing with smaller financial institutions.

Lloyds Group and HSBC were two of the so-called 'big four' banks to receive a poor rating with respondents.

The study also found the middle classes admitting to having the least understanding of their outgoings – and instead preferring not to think about them.
