Life assurance you can refuse

Questions are being raised over the financial services industry wonderment about why its institutions are so disliked, despite repeatedly sending out dubious offers which often appear to nothing short of a rip off.

That's according to City Wire who report that Halifax has just released details for an Over-50 Guaranteed Life Plan which offers whole of life cover, payable on death, 'Provided you buy before your birthday you can buy £4,275 of cover for just £20 a month,' says the leaflet.

The cost for the Halifax cover works out at £4.67 per £1,000 of cover, but a female, non-smoker, aged 65 next on their next birthday could buy 25 year term cover, for just £0.953 per £1,000 of cover from Aviva and the premiums are guaranteed fixed.

On these figures Halifax is nearly five times more expensive.
