Getting debt advice early is being encouraged to save the NHS money according to a new report.

The London Health Forum say around a quarter of a million Londoners suffer from mental health problems as a result of debt worries. And it's costing the capital's NHS system roughly £450m a year, the campaign group said.

The forum is asking GPs to encourage people to get debt help and give them options over their money problems.

Debt-related mental health problems are an ongoing nationwide problem.
According to the Royal College of Psychiatrists, one in four people in the UK with a mental health problem is in debt.

Taking control of your finances is a positive step forward – and could give you a better frame of mind. More and more people are seeking debt advice and are looking at Debt Management Plan'>Debt Management Plans as a way to deal with their financial struggles.

EuroDebt has recorded an increase in the number of people looking for debt solutions. A Debt Management Plan or an IVA are two non-borrowing options for people looking to take control of their finances.
