EuroDebt, has funded Plymouth Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB), as it trials a new personal finance education course
Leading debt management provider, EuroDebt, has funded Plymouth Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB), as it trials a new personal finance education course (PFE), designed to help people take control of their finances. EuroDebt funded the start up costs for the course, which included providing training to the Plymouth CAB advisers who will be delivering the course, as well as producing printed copies of a special edition of Money Abuse, by Philip Evans,
"Personal financial education is as essential to people's survival in a developed country as literacy and numeracy," explains Kevin Still, Director of EuroDebt. "Credit cards are a fact of life, but clearly many people are struggling to cope in today's credit-based society. Personal financial education is essential to helping equip people to manage their finances, which is why EuroDebt is offering full support to the Plymouth CAB project."
Designed in partnership with EuroDebt, the course examines where money comes from, looking at loans, wages, overdrafts and different kinds of debt, while group activities will look at budgeting and credit.
Gill Tishler, Director of Plymouth CAB, comments, "Over 40% of enquiries to Plymouth CAB in the last year were related to debt, illustrating the need for education to support people in gaining control of their financial affairs. EuroDebt has offered an invaluable level of funding and expertise, playing a key role in getting this project off the ground.
"We are now looking for further funding to enable us to offer an ongoing education programme to Plymouth residents keen to find a way to manage money and debt.
Still concludes, "We are delighted to be involved in the CAB's education project, helping people question why they spend the way they do and take steps towards a better future. We only need to look at the escalating levels of consumer debt to realise that education has to play a key part in empowering individuals to take control of their finances. Critically, it's not about telling people how to live, but helping them to live the way they want."
