Sussex bucks ‘indebted’ women trend
17/10/2011
Women in Brighton and Hove are less likely to seek help to manage their rising debts than men, according to a survey by debt charity the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS).
More men are turning to the charity for help paying their debts than women, as living, food and fuel costs all rise.
Only 47 per cent of the 1,637 people seen by the CCCS last year were women. The average debt for men in the city was £22,574 whilst for women the debt was significantly lower - £18,734 on average.
The national trend for last year actually saw more women than men seeking help for debt problems, but Sussex appeared the anomaly in this trend.
