Debt help: Banks 'failing to treat customers fairly'
26/02/2010
A recent report from the Financial Ombudsman Service has found that banks in the UK have received an increase in complaints from consumers in the last six months.
The UK's financial services complaints company reported an 18 per cent increase in grievances.
Customers who are struggling to balance debts with their bank could consider a debt management plan, which would allow them to find a controllable way to pay off their debts.
David Thomas, interim chief ombudsman, commented: "The data we have released clearly shows that some businesses still need to do more to ensure that they deal with their customers' complaints effectively and fairly - so that consumers do not then need to escalate their dissatisfaction to the ombudsman.
"We hope that businesses will continue to use this data to focus their attention on addressing these key complaints-handling issues over the coming months and years."
The findings revealed that Lloyds TSB is the most complained about bank, although it should be noted that it also has one of the largest customer bases.
