Debt help: Job loss and debt 'still an issue'

26/02/2010

Despite the official end to the recession in the final quarter of 2009, an online news agency has revealed that many people in Britain are still experiencing financial difficulties.

Results from Adfero's street poll in Leeds found that many people were still struggling to pay off debt and find a secure job.

Carrianne Richards, a house wife in the city, said: "Me and my husband are finding it difficult at the moment. He's been told he might be laid off, so he's trying to look for work at the moment, but it is tough."

Jane Sinclair, a student in the city, agreed that times were indeed tough.

She added: "I don't things have got better. I've got loads of debt at the moment. I don't know how I'm going to pay it all off."

People who are still struggling with debt accrued from their time as a student or due to a lack of work could benefit from a structured debt management plan.
Mark Roberts, highlighted the current difficulty in finding employment, noting: "Nothing has changed for me really. Lots of folk are finding it tough at the moment, and you're lucky to find work. Now, it seems there is only agency work going at the moment."

Employment rates tumbled between 2007 and 2009 as the recession took hold of the UK.

In 2007, approximately 75 per cent of working age people were in jobs.

By the fourth quarter of 2009 this had dropped to just above 70 per cent.
