Debt advice: Consumers should 'change heating habits to keep costs down'
17/02/2010
Debt help may be needed by many Britons as they struggle to pay off the hangover from winter energy bills.
Despite winter energy bills rising by around 20 per cent from last year's rates, many people are not making the necessary changes to keep costs down.
Price comparison site Confused.com has revealed a number of costly heating habits undertaken by many Brits.
Although 73 per cent of people in the UK are now more concerned about the cost of the energy they use, one in ten are still leaving the heating on all day in order to come home to a warm house.
On top of this, 22 per cent will leave the heating on for their pets and 37 per cent will think to turn up the thermostat before putting on an extra jumper.
Gareth Kloet, head of energy at the website, commented: "It's disappointing that, whilst 76 per cent of home owners admit to being more aware of the energy they are using, they are not using this increased awareness as inspiration to bring their cost down in the simplest, quickest way possible: by finding the most appropriate tariff and provider for them."
