Debt worries keeping Brits in work
29/01/2010
Income and expenditure worries are leading an increasing number of Britons to continue in employment even if they are not happy.
A new poll from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) found that 63 per cent of workers fear they would not be able to find new jobs if they lost or left their current one.
In addition, the survey discovered that 41 per cent of employees feel pressured at work at least one or twice a week, with 15 per cent of public sector organisations admitting to planning redundancies.
Claire McCartney, co-author of the Employee Outlook, said: "Even though the economy is no longer flat on its back, the 'real economy' as experienced in the day to day lives of workers is crippled."
She added that even if the recession has ended, "employers are going to have to continue to work hard to re-build motivation and commitment among employees bruised by job insecurity, lack of consultation over change, pay freezes or cuts, as well as increases in stress and conflict".
