Debt management: Energy efficiency could reduce heating bills
26/01/2010
People struggling with debt could save money by balancing out high winter heating bills with energy efficiency during the warmer summer months.
Lesley Tudor-Snodin, spokeswoman for National Energy Action said: "Being more energy efficient during the warmer months can help balance out the high use during the winter."
She added: "Energy prices have remained fairly stable during the last year, and are still on average around three to five per cent cheaper than they were this time last year thanks to an online price war between suppliers keeping costs competitive in that market."
Ms Tudor-Snodin urged consumers not to worry over their bills and not to risk ill health by living in a cold house.
The comments come after a recent Ofgem report which found a 13 per cent increase in the number of electricity customers entering into a new debt arrangement with their supplier in the third quarter of 2009.
