Debt advice news: Home sales fall again, HMRC figures show

23/12/2009

Many would-be homebuyers are still struggling with personal income worries and as such are unable to make a move, newly-released figures suggest.

Just recently, the Bank of England stated that home sales are now picking up, with an increased number of transactions anticipated for the coming months.

However, new data from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) show that the number of sales completed in November stood at just 87,000.

This compares to the 90,000 made in the previous month and represents the second month of reversals in 2009, indicating that thousands of would-be buyers are still struggling to get on top of their personal income worries and put together a deposit for a new property.

On a more positive note, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) has suggested that those Britons able to seek out debt advice and get their finances in order could be able to take advantage of a market on-the-up in 2010.

The professional body's chief economist Simon Rubinsohn explained to the BBC that more properties are set to become available, while recent "stimulus programmes" will also make themselves felt at the lower levels of the economy.
