Poll shows banks' unpopularity

26/11/2009

Banks are still unpopular among customers, a poll released by Lightspeed Research has shown.

The firm said that 33 per cent of Britons do not believe banks' own claims of being customer friendly - terming them "more talk than action".

Three in four also said that they got poor value from credit cards and 56 per cent are unhappy with their current accounts.

Lightspeed Research also pointed out that the poll had been taken prior to the Supreme Court announcement on bank account charges.

Yesterday (November 25th), the judges announced that the Office of Fair Trading should not be allowed to rule on the fairness of these fees.

The decision effectively lowers the chances of the millions of customers hoping to get compensation for charges they have previously paid - but that they see as being unfairly high.

Ralph Risk, Lightspeed Research European marketing director, said: "Today's consumers are very savvy and have more tools than ever at their fingertips to check prices, service and value for money.

"Organisations have to walk the walk, not just talk to the talk if they want keep their customers - something that is even more crucial in the current challenging economic environment."ADNFCR-1819-ID-19481402-ADNFCR
