Football star 'went into the red'
20/11/2009
A highly-paid Premier League footballer suffered from severe money worries, it has been revealed.
Obafemi Martins, who used to play for Newcastle United, was consistently overdrawn despite earning around £75,000 a week.
The claims came during an ongoing court case involving NVA Management, which used to represent the Nigerian striker.
Robert Tennick, a solicitor for the firm, said that Martins used to withdraw £40,000 cash for his weekend spending and took out another £25,000 in cash on Monday.
NVA Management also said that it often had to bail out the star when he overspent.
It also allegedly had to provide a range of lifestyle services, including property and mortgage valuations.
Mr Tennick said: "Day to day life with superstars is demanding and superstars are demanding."
The case, which is being held at the High Court in London, continues.
