Government plans could help graduates in debt
13/11/2009
Graduates struggling with housing debt and bills have been handed a boost thanks to the government's new skills for growth plan.
With many university leavers having personal income worries in the wake of the recession, the plans will allow young people the chance to get jobs and learn valuable skills.
This is according to the Graduate Recruitment Bureau, which said that the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills' plan is a "good idea".
Co-founder of the Graduate Recruitment Bureau Dan Hawes explained that employers are currently able to "pick and choose who they like" because of the large numbers of graduates trying to enter the workforce.
"So, if there is any other way that graduates are able to improve their chances of finding work through additional skills then that is really important in this competitive jobs market," he said.
As part of the government's plans, which were announced by business secretary Lord Mandelson, each adult will be given a personal skills account, while the number of advanced apprenticeships and scholarships would increase dramatically.
