In-tertainment to save Britons money
27/10/2009
Britons are making savings and reducing debt problems by "in-tertaining", Abbey revealed today.
According to the firm, each UK adult is saving £89 a month by socialising at home rather than going on nights out.
The typical Briton was also revealed to be consuming around 57 per cent of paid-for entertainment activities from the comfort of their own homes.
This trend reflects the recession conditions, which have led to widespread redundancies and pay freezes.
Bank credit, which might otherwise have helped to fund expensive nights out, has also become much more restricted as a result of the financial downturn.
Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of savings and investments at Abbey, commented: "The recession has made people far savvier when it comes to saving money and millions of us have worked out that in-tertaining is a great way to cut back without missing out."
The report also showed that the nation's "in-tertainers" hire a total of 1.7 million DVDs and purchase 63 million takeaways per month.
