Pub prices rise in recession

02/10/2009

Recession-hit beer drinkers are being left out of pocket by rising pub prices, a new survey has revealed.

The latest edition of the Good Pub Guide, released today (October 2nd), shows that the typical price of a pint in Surrey is now over £3.

Nearby Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Sussex tied for second on the list, with an average of £2.85.

Across the whole of the UK, the typical pint costs £2.68.

A year ago, this total stood at £2.58.

Alisdair Aird, one of the Good Pub Guide's editors, told the Daily Telegraph: "It's all too easy now to go to the bar, buy a round and find out that your £20 has completely disappeared."

The expert put the price rises in the south east of England down to the influence of large pub firms.

"When they put up their prices all the pubs in the area tend to follow suit," he added.

"And the pub companies have a bigger presence in Surrey than most other places."ADNFCR-1819-ID-19391226-ADNFCR
