Supplier praised for new online energy tariff
25/09/2009
Market competition in the energy market has increased with the release of Scottish Power's Online Energy Saver 7 tariff.
The new deal is now the second-cheapest available to UK consumers behind the tariff offered by First Utility, analysis from Moneysupermarket.com has shown.
Scottish Power was also confirmed as the "big six" energy provider with the lowest customer bills, with the typical user of Online Energy Saver 7 paying just £975 a year.
E.ON's Fix Online V3 tariff costs around £6 more per year.
Both deals are only available to internet users - with those customers paying in the traditional way via cash and cheque shut out from the savings.
Commenting, utilities manager at Moneysupermarket.com Scott Byrom said: "This really is [welcome] news for customers looking to [rein] in their outgoings wherever possible in the current climate.
"With autumn nights drawing in and winter energy bills looming, any kind of saving is great for UK bill payers."
Mr Byrom added that a "price war" between energy suppliers could ensue from the new product launches - with beneficial effects for customers willing to switch.
