E.ON switches customers to monthly bills
23/09/2009
Confused.com has praised an energy provider for its "brave move" to bill customers monthly instead of every three months.
E.ON announced the change, which will affect users who make payments via cash or cheque, yesterday (September 22nd).
Monthly billing was seen as beneficial for customers by the financial website as it can assist them in forming a budget to cover costs.
This is because the more frequent updates give them a better picture of how much they are spending on their gas and electricity.
Fuel costs have become an acute concern recently, with many household incomes falling due to rising unemployment and tighter mortgage conditions in the wake of the credit crunch.
Market trends also led energy bills to rise by over 40 per cent last year according to uSwitch.com - although many tariffs have been reduced in 2009.
Commenting on E.ON's move, Gareth Kloet, head of utilities at Confused.com, said: "It should be embraced by customers as a way to gain greater control and visibility of their energy bills."
He added: "Having a greater understanding of the amount of gas and electricity they use [through monthly bills] can also help people to review whether they are currently on the best tariff and with the best provider for their personal circumstances."
