Conflicts of interest for debt charity

14/09/2009

Three trustees of the debt advice Foundation have been accused of having a conflict of interest with their other business commitments.

Andrew Redmond, John Reynard and Paul Latham were also directors of Debt Free Direct until they concluded that this may constitute a conflict of interest.

However, Mr Redmond and Mr Latham have now become directors of BRINC, a company that runs company-affinity initiatives.

The Daily Telegraph's City Diary has suggested that this represents another conflict of interest, as BRINC supplies leads to the Debt Advice Foundation, among other organisations.

BRINC told the newspaper: "BRINC receives an income from all of its employee benefit offerings including this contract.

"The bottom line is that the charity is benefiting from the relationship, as are the voluntary benefit scheme users."
