Online retail 'more popular with men'
11/08/2009
Men spend an average of £672 more on online shopping than women, new research has revealed.
The study by PayPal UK found that some 12.9 million men use the internet to purchase goods and services, compared to 10.3 million women.
In addition, the report discovered that the rate at which shoppers are turning to the web is higher among men than women.
Each year since 2006, some 839,000 men have begun using the internet for shopping. In contrast, fewer than 400,000 women have done the same.
Carl Scheible, managing director of PayPal UK, said: "The online revolution has turned men into shopaholics. We love the quick and efficient nature of the internet, especially when it comes to buying technology and gadgets."
According to the latest IMRG/Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index, published last month, more than £22 billion was spent on online shopping in the UK over the first six months of the year.
