Butcher 'sacks own sons' due to downturn

A British butcher struggling in the credit crunch has taken the ultimate cost-cutting step - by firing his two sons.
Wayne Grist, an Ebbw Vale resident, found that business has slumped due to the economic downturn, leading him to make the difficult choice.
However, the butcher said that he hoped to re-employ his sons, aged 24 and 26, when the recession is over, the BBC reports.
He commented: "You feel a failure. No-one likes to let their children down but that is the only way forward.
"Trade is just dwindling from week to week. On an average day we are 50 per cent down on sales from this time last year."
Also speaking to the broadcaster, local JobCentre Plus manager Geraint Williams said that demand for work had risen to new highs.
"We have seen unprecedented numbers of people coming in recent months
It has been difficult," he said.
Yesterday, official unemployment figures showed that the UK jobless total had risen to its highest level for 14 years.
Just under 2.4 million Britons were out of work at the end of May, according to the Office for National Statistics.
