Pontin's 'gets a boost from recession'

14/07/2009

Bookings are up 25 per cent at Pontin's, with hard-up Brits swapping their pricey foreign holidays for a UK "staycation".

The firm, which runs five holiday camps, also said that sales were "gaining momentum" in the recession.

Budgets up and down the country have been squeezed by the downturn, leading many to reprioritise their spending.

With its finances in a strong position, Pontin's is now embarking on the next stage of a £50 million package of investments to upgrade its own facilities.

Jason Brindle, sales and marketing director at the firm, commented: "Not that long ago millions of people in the UK were travelling to Spain for their traditional summer holidays, taking advantage of the cheap flights and accommodation and food/refreshments all made possible by the excellent exchange rate.

"But of course all of that is completely turned upside down, as flights/accommodation/food etc have all significantly increased overseas, exacerbated even more so by the poor exchange rate."ADNFCR-1819-ID-19264374-ADNFCR
