Credit crunched web users 'face switching difficulty'

01/07/2009

Many broadband deals are overly costly and it is difficult for customers to switch to a cheaper deal, Broadbandchoices.co.uk said yesterday.

The specialist website has conducted research on the issue and has found that 71 per cent of users have taken an internet service "bundled" with other deals, such as satellite TV or landline phones.

This generally inflates costs, potentially putting financial strain on credit crunch-hit household budgets.

The report was released in the wake of a critical new study from the Communications Consumer Panel, which also called for the switching process to be made easier for customers.

Broadbandchoices.co.uk said in a statement: "It is crucial that [industry regulator] Ofcom addresses the specific frustrations that these consumers face when switching.

"Switching difficulty is something we have always campaigned against since some of the most common complaints we receive on our website are due to consumers' dissatisfaction with the currently confusing switching process."

The site said that changes to the law to make switching "as simple and quick as possible" would help remedy the situation.ADNFCR-1819-ID-19245359-ADNFCR
