Sleep troubles plague recession-hit Brits
09/06/2009
One in three Britons are having trouble sleeping in the recession, it has been claimed.
Harris Interactive also found that 17 per cent are using alcohol to self-medicate and help them sleep more.
Responding to the new report, mental health charity Mind said that rising unemployment was stressing millions of Britons out at the moment.
Official government figures have shown the jobless total rising above 2.2 million people.
Meanwhile, some business groups predict that 3.5 million could be out of work next year.
Paul Farmer, chief executive of mental health charity Mind, said: "Many people at the moment are working in tough environments and are coming in to work faced with the prospect that through no fault of their own, they might be out of their job tomorrow.
"Job insecurity can really put a strain on working relationships and motivation levels, and money worries alone can cause problems such as stress, anxiety and depression."
