Bargain holidays a priority for Brits
01/06/2009
Hard-up Brits are "pulling out all the stops" to cut their travel costs, Tesco has claimed.
According to a new survey, over a third (34 per cent) are spending less on their holiday than they were in 2008.
Over half (54 per cent) said that they would be spending less on food and drink, while four in ten said that they would be making cutbacks in gifts and on duty-free.
Currently, holiday budgets are under increased strain due to a combination of rising unemployment, tight credit conditions and the weak pound - which means people can buy less foreign currency with their money than before.
A Tesco Travel Money spokesperson said: "It's great to see that holidaymakers are pulling out the stops to get value for money and making sacrifices to ensure they get their two weeks in the sun."
Tesco also said that 54 per cent of Brits are taking an overseas trip this year - while 29 per cent are travelling abroad two or more times.
