Female landlords 'more sympathetic'

26/05/2009

A new survey from the National Landlords Association (NLA) has shown that tenants' changing needs in the recession are more likely to be accommodated by female landlords.

The property professionals' poll showed that women were more likely to see their rental properties as a "people business", rather than purely a way of making profits.

Females were also revealed to be likely to spend more time and money on "little touches" to make homes more pleasing to live in.

The survey comes following the release of recent figures from the NLA, which showed that one in three tenants faced being in arrears, due to the recession.

These late or non-existent rental payments could in turn put landlords' finances under strain, particularly with the tight mortgage conditions being experienced on the market at the moment.

David Salusbury, chairman of the NLA, said: "From the research it is difficult to know definitively whether men and women run their lettings businesses differently.

"However, the respondents to the NLA survey certainly seem to feel that female landlords are more approachable, better organised and especially sympathetic."

The NLA quizzed 500 female landlords over the course of its surveys.ADNFCR-1819-ID-19186366-ADNFCR
