14/05/2009
A new initiative has been announced to offer support and guidance to those Brits struggling to make ends meet.
Nationwide Building Society has teamed up with Citizens Advice to launch the MoneyActive partnership to provide additional advice to struggling households.
As part of the three-year scheme, the MoneyActive financial education services will be offered in 75 Citizens Advice Bureaux across the UK.
Nationwide has provided £3 million for the project, which is expected to benefit 100,000 Brits.
David Harker, chief executive of Citizens Advice, said: "Debt problems continue to be the number one issue seen in bureaux.
"MoneyActive is a unique and extremely ambitious project which delivers on our commitment to do more to help people avoid getting into financial crisis."
The scheme will see 1,300 Citizens Advice volunteers trained to offer financial advice to help consumers cope through the recession. Previously, just 100 of the organisation's volunteers were qualified to give such advice.
