Council tax least popular with Brits

07/05/2009

The taxes Brits hate the most have been exposed in a new poll.

Unbiased.co.uk, a website that specialises in financial advice, shows that council tax is the payment least popular with the public.

Almost half (43 per cent) picked the local government levy as their most-hated.

TV licences, fuel duty, inheritance tax and income tax were also in the top five.

Meanwhile, six in ten confessed to Unbiased.co.uk that they felt powerless to limit their tax burdens.

David Elms, chief executive of Unbiased.co.uk, commented: "The government needs to find ways to increase revenue as a result of the economic crisis. Unfortunately this may well mean higher personal tax which puts even more strain on people's finances at a time when they are trying to make their money stretch further."

He added: "However, while some taxes are unavoidable, UK adults will pay £10 billion in unnecessary taxes this year alone, which could be stamped out by better financial planning."ADNFCR-1819-ID-19157827-ADNFCR
