The best things in life are free, report finds

07/05/2009

It's official: men and women feel differently about money matters.

According to a new report from smile, an internet bank, males feel that they need 27 per cent more money to feel happy than women.

The poll also showed that, overall, women were five per cent happier than men.

Despite these differences, smile claimed that there were similarities between the sexes in what they thought the most important things in life were.

Both genders said that they thought having their first child and meeting their partner were the "happiest" possible events.

John Barker, head of smile, commented: "The research shows that there are many things in life which make us happy, we understand that the best things in life are free, but we also understand the value of financial security, that's why our ethical approach to banking and excellent customer service are now more important than ever."

The smile poll comes at a time when the downturn in the economy is leading to big changes in the nation's spending habits.

A recent report from the Charities Aid Foundation suggested that four in five people were becoming more conservative in what they buy, as they struggle to meet tighter budgets in the recession.ADNFCR-1819-ID-19157825-ADNFCR
