Npower announces cuts to electricity bills
17/03/2009
Npower has announced that it will be reducing its electricity tariffs by eight per cent.
According to the provider, this will mean that the typical customer saves £43 a year.
Tariffs are scheduled to come down on March 31st.
The firm is the last of the UK's "big six" energy suppliers to announce price cuts over recent weeks.
Lower wholesale prices have driven the changes - although they do not cancel out the two separate rounds of price hikes imposed by the providers in 2008.
Following the announcement, EuroDebt director Kevin Still said: "Whilst we welcome any reductions in tariffs for our clients, over the last sixty days customers using our energy switching service saved an average of £141.79 per annum, so it is definitely worth shopping around, comparing tariffs and reviewing your own energy consumption.
"EuroDebt obviously deals with people in financial difficulty and any reductions can be usefully re-directed to reducing debts."
Also commenting on Npower's price cut, Will Marples, energy expert at price comparison site uSwitch, said: "By the end of March, the majority of consumers will be seeing some small benefit from lower wholesale energy prices.
"But it has taken time and price cuts have averaged out at 4.3 per cent or £56, which will only make a small dent in household energy bills."
