Big electricity group announces 9% customer price cut
16/02/2009
E.ON has become the latest UK gas and electricity supplier to announce a round of price cuts.
Electricity tariffs for the majority of the German firm's British customers are to be cut by nine per cent.
British Gas, the nation's largest domestic energy provider in terms of customer numbers, and Scottish & Southern Energy announced price reductions in both gas and electricity plans of up to ten per cent recently.
Graham Bartlett, managing director of E.ON's retail business, said: "We are delighted to announce today that we'll be reducing our electricity prices for millions of customers, while also having maintained one of the cheapest gas prices throughout the coldest winter in over a decade.
"We know our customers are facing difficult times and we are continuing to monitor the market to ensure the prices we offer our customers are as competitive as possible."
Commenting on the price moves, EuroDebt director Kevin Still said: "We strongly believe that consumers should be actively looking to look at energy switching Services to be able to take advantage of the reduction in prices, if you are not tied into a lengthy existing agreement.
"It is unfortunate that, in many instances, households cant switch supply because of arrears with their existing provider. This has become an increasing area of focus for EuroDebt as an energy switching provider. For those that havent switched achieving annual savings of between £200 and £300 is not unrealistic and will significantly accelerate the rate that our clients become debt free."
E.ON's reductions are to come into effect next month.
