'Cut-price cupids' in credit crunch Valentine's
12/02/2009
The credit crunch will lead to cut-price Valentine's Day celebrations this year.
One in ten Brits told Abbey Banking pollsters that, while they will be eating out with their other half this February 14th, they will pay for it with a meal deal voucher.
Around one in four said that they will not buy a gift for their loved one - while 12 per cent will be making their own Valentine's card.
Despite these cash flow problems, which have mainly been brought about by the credit crisis and the recession, 56 per cent still plan to celebrate the occasion this year.
Susan Voase, Abbey Banking spokesperson, commented: "Cash-strapped Britons will be hoping that it's still the thought that counts as they turn to more cost-effective ways to show their love this Valentine's Day.
"But while romance may be the latest casualty of the credit crunch, more than half of us are still planning to celebrate Valentine's Day this year."
