Snows make "National Sickie Day" worse than ever

02/02/2009

As if this morning's snows across the UK hadn't caused enough disruption, news comes from Friends Provident that today is "National Sickie Day".

According to the insurer, statistics show that Monday 2nd February is the worst day for absenteeism.

This research was conducted before heavy snow shut off much of London's transport network and made many roads across the country unsafe to drive on – meaning that millions more will not make it into the office.

Friends Provident found that the recession is likely to worsen things this year – with many people stressed about the possibility of job loss, wage cuts and other problems associated with the economic downturn.

Figures from the insurance firm show that 61 per cent of all Britons feel more "prone to illness", more "stressed", and less healthy today.

Mark Jones, head of protection at Friends Provident, added: "Our research shows that the UK's health is being affected by the credit crunch.

"People need to make more effort to protect and care for themselves, otherwise National Sickie Day could be the start of a long-term national health issue."ADNFCR-1819-ID-19003452-ADNFCR
