Job loss, mortgage fears revealed by poll
22/01/2009
One third of Britons now feel less secure in their jobs than they did a year ago, Nationwide said today.
Research from the lender also revealed that two-thirds of young homeowners do not believe they would be able to keep up with their mortgage repayments for more than three months - should they lose their jobs.
Robin Bailey, director at Nationwide, said: "Job security has become a major concern and it is important that people do not rest upon the hope that they will not experience redundancy.
"By acting now people can take steps to lessen the financial impact of losing their job and make sure, should the worst happen, they are in the best position to weather the storm and get back into employment as soon as possible."
The Nationwide analysis comes in the wake of new official unemployment figures, which revealed that the jobless total rose to 1.92 million in November.
This is 6.1 per cent of the workforce.
