Bank hails return of "Blitz spirit"

20/01/2009

Some householders are cutting down on their utilities bills and embracing good old-fashioned pursuits such as board games and knitting

A poll from a British bank has revealed a new-found "Blitz spirit" among families thanks to the recession.

According to cahoot, some households are taking on some old-fashioned ways of reducing their utilities bills.

One in five of those polled said that they are watching less TV than before with the onset of the financial downturn, saving on their electricity in the process.

To while away the hours, six per cent have taken up board games - while two per cent have turned to knitting.

Elsewhere, one in ten homes are cutting bills by sharing bath water.

Matthew Timms, head of cahoot, commented: "Interestingly it seems that the credit crunch is breeding something of a Blitz spirit amongst British households.

"Staying in really has become the new going out as we seek to cut costs by conducting more shared activities inside the home with family and friends."ADNFCR-1819-ID-18982497-ADNFCR
