Women 'most worried about debt'
04/09/2008
Becoming debt free is more important to women than a happy marriage or a good career, it has been suggested.
According to a new poll from Psychologies Magazine, four in five British females cite clearing their debts as a "luxury" they wish for in their lives.
By way of comparison, just 76 per cent picked "having more time", while "having a happy marriage" and "having a job that fits my life" attracted just 62 and 60 per cent respectively.
Maureen Rice, editor of Psychologies Magazine, said: "Women today are yearning for more meaningful lives and basic pleasures such as a free weekend with space for themselves, their families and friends."
She added: "At present many women find life all work and no play. Women want a better balance. A better quality of life. Despite working more than ever before, women don't feel any richer."
When asked about their personal finances, just five per cent of women told the pollsters that they felt "well-off".
Six in ten said that they owed money on their credit cards.
