Mortgage lender hit by FSA fine

A UK mortgage provider has been fined £2.8 million by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) for failing to treat its customers fairly.
GMAC-RFC was found to have charged excessive fees to customers, offered inadequate advice and began repossession proceedings before exploring alternatives.
Repayment plans offered by the firm to struggling borrowers were also found to be defective.

Charity issues alert on benefits change

New benefits rules which could provide support to young families who do not own their own home have been highlighted by Citizens Advice.
The financial charity pointed out that, from November 2nd, the level of a household's child benefit support will no longer be used in calculating housing and council tax benefits.
This will provide an income boost for many low-income families with money problems.
