British Gas profits rise sharply on higher customer prices

British Gas has announced an 80 per cent rise in residential profits for January-June 2009.
The nation's biggest gas and electricity provider's owners Centrica said that net earnings had hit £299 million over the six-month period, with the firm receiving a boost through 2008's price increases.
In January-June last year, profits were just £166 million.

Car insurance premiums 'rise by 11%'

The cost of insuring a car is on the rise, new industry figures have confirmed.
According to the AA, overall costs are up 11 per cent on last year - an increase way ahead of inflation.
This means that many more of Britain's 30 million-plus drivers will struggle to pay their premiums, especially in the current recession conditions.
