Loan adverts 'facing ban from watchdog'

There is to be a crackdown on personal loans TV adverts, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said in its latest annual report.
Released yesterday, the document criticises some providers' TV spots, which according to the watchdog downplay the way in which unsecured credit can do damage to finances.The current economic downturn makes the potential effects of the adverts worse according to the ASA.
More and more people are facing financial strain due to rising unemployment and the recession.

Fashion sales 'still growing, despite recession'

Single mums and other women are refusing to pass up on clothes shopping despite the financial downturn, Cosmopolitan said today.
According to the women's magazine, many shoppers will carry on spending because "looking good" is "the one thing that makes you feel better" in times of recession.
The comments follow the announcing of financial results from popular fashion website ASOS, which revealed that sales were up by 90 per cent, pushing profits to £7.3 million.
