Gym memberships 'to be turned in this New Year's'

Brits are more worried about the credit crunch than stomach crunches - and are ditching their expensive gym memberships as a result.
According to new research from financial website Moneysupermarket.com, 56 per cent are planning to turn their cards in this New Year's - traditionally a time of high gym activity following the festive excesses.
However, memberships are estimated by the site to cost as much as £500 a year - despite just 28 per cent attending gyms regularly.

Insolvencies 'will rise to 150,000'

Personal insolvencies are to shoot to their highest-ever levels in 2009, KPMG has warned.
The accountancy firm said that 150,000 Britons would default on their debts next year, as the economy contracts, unemployment rises and budgets come under increasing strain.
Included in the total is bankruptcies and Individual Voluntary Arrangements.
