Consumer champion Which? launches major new campaign
Consumer champion Which? has launched a major new campaign, 'Britain Needs Better Banks', as its latest research shows that almost two thirds of people are still really angry with the banks for causing the financial crisis. This has probably not been improved by the banks winning the case in the supreme court this week brought by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) regarding reclaiming excessive bank charges. This adversely affected hundreds of thousands of bank customers.
"It seems the vast majority of the public feel that the banks are unrepentant about their treatment of customers" says Kevin Still, Director, EuroDebt. "And by the admission of the UK's biggest Union the banks are continuing to exploit their customers, whilst not addressing the major areas of complaint identified by the FSA in their quarterly figures. This is especially true around the quality of customer service and over-charging, especially to vulnerable clients.
"It looks like the age of 'free banking' is coming to an end and consumers need to vote with their feet when selecting a suitable provider based upon how they manage their account."
EuroDebt has established a pre-paid current account that is eligible to all UK residents and is not subject to credit checks. There is only a small monthly fee of £12.50 and charges for failed direct debits. Find out more by visiting www.bankswitching.co.uk
To add a lighthearted element to the Which? campaign it is asking consumers to vote for the song they think best represents the banks. Which? has published a shortlist of songs on its new banking campaigns website from a national poll that sum up people's views of the banks.
