Credit Services Association

May 2009

A brief introduction to the Credit Services Association (the trade body for Debt Collectors and Debt Buyers)

Credit Services Association (CSA) is the only National Association in the UK for companies active in relation to unpaid credit accounts

The Credit Services Association (CSA) is the only National Association in the UK for companies active in relation to unpaid credit accounts; debt recovery agencies, tracing and allied professional services and has a history dating back to 1902.

The CSA operates a Code of Practice for all its members which can be found on the CSA website . This is compliant with the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) Debt Collection Guidance, which is currently being reviewed. Every CSA member should comply with this. There are over 300 members listed on the CSA member site.

Many of EuroDebt's clients have not had dealings with Debt Collection Agencies or Debt Buyers prior to falling into arrears on one or more of their accounts. The CSA have produced some factsheets that are available to download.

You would generally complain to the CSA if you were unhappy with a debt collector's activities. However, in the first instance problems can often be resolved quickly and simply by contacting the member company directly - each member company has nominated a contact person for the CSA. This is normally a person with some seniority, who deals with CSA-related business, and complaints directed via the association. The complaints procedure can be found on their website.
